The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dodged a major setback in their 20-16 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, learning that defensive tackle Vita Vea is day-to-day with an MCL sprain.

Vea, who left the game early after a teammate accidentally landed on his right knee during a pass attempt by the Lions, was later seen wearing a knee brace. Head coach Todd Bowles provided an update on the injury during Monday's press conference.

“Yeah, he has an MCL sprain, grade two,” Bowles said . “Right now, he’s day-to-day, but not ruled out.”

This news comes as a relief to Tampa Bay, which has already been dealing with a series of defensive injuries. While Vea’s status remains uncertain for the upcoming week, the diagnosis is not as severe as initially feared. Vea, who is a cornerstone of the Buccaneers' defensive line, will continue to be evaluated as the week progresses.

The Buccaneers' defensive unit has already been stretched thin this season. Defensive tackle Calijah Kancey has yet to play a snap due to a lingering calf injury, and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is sidelined for several weeks with a foot injury. With these key players out, Vea's presence becomes even more critical for the defense.

When asked about the status of other injured players, Bowles had little to offer.

"Not at the moment, no," he said, leaving the team's injury situation largely uncertain moving forward.

As the Buccaneers prepare for their next matchup , they will be hoping for Vea's swift recovery to avoid further depletion of their defensive front. While the team has managed to navigate through injuries early in the season, maintaining depth and health will be key to their continued success.

For now, the Buccaneers can feel fortunate that Vea’s injury wasn’t more serious, but his day-to-day status remains a situation to watch closely in the coming days.
