Miami-Dade Commissioner Eileen Higgins, in collaboration with the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) and Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) departments, officially opened the Downtown Dog Spot, a new urban space designed for dogs and their owners.

Located beneath the First Street Metromover Station, the area repurposes an underused space into a vibrant community hub, complete with separate areas for small and large dogs, agility equipment, shaded seating, and water fountains.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 12, Commissioner Higgins emphasized the importance of creatively transforming public spaces to enhance community livability. The Downtown Dog Spot provides a free, accessible space for residents, workers, and visitors to enjoy.

This project is part of a larger initiative to repurpose urban spaces under the Metromover, contributing to a more connected and sustainable Miami. Local leaders, including DTPW Director Eulois Cleckley and Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) CEO Christina Crespi, expressed excitement for the new space, praising its ability to bring the community together while promoting public transportation and green infrastructure.

The Downtown Dog Spot aims to make Downtown Miami a more pet-friendly, livable environment for all.

đŸ€ŁđŸ˜‚đŸ€ŁđŸ˜‚ Haven't heard... they eating the dogs, they eating the cats.. ( just messing) anyway on a serious note.. I'd rather they have parks then having pets walk on very hot pavement. People do not verify that the ground they walk on, is safe.. for example when the air temperature is 77°, the asphalt temperature is 125°. If it's too hot for your bare feet, it's too hot for their! đŸ©·đŸŸđŸŸ
