Fans Point Out Major Flaw with ESPN's Falcons-Eagles MNF Broadcast

If your last name is Kelce, it seems like you're destined for popularity—at least if you’re Travis or Jason Kelce.

Travis, of course, is a multi-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs and is currently dating one of the most famous people on the planet, Taylor Swift. Jason, on the other hand, is a recently retired center who played for the Philadelphia Eagles. His association with his brother has only increased his popularity—thanks in part to the "Taylor Swift effect"—but he’s also beloved for his larger-than-life personality.

Whether he's been seen chugging beers at his brother's playoff games, making an appearance at WrestleMania, or showing up on Monday Night Countdown wearing a shirt he just bought at the mall because he forgot his luggage, Jason Kelce has become a magnet for attention.

It seems ESPN has noticed, as Kelce was everywhere on Monday night's broadcast of the Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles game. Since the game was in Philadelphia, his presence made sense, but many viewers found it to be excessive.

It all started on Monday Night Countdown when Kelce hyped up the crowd around Lincoln Financial Field while wearing a kelly-green Italian tracksuit, with music blaring behind him.

Then, during the second half of the game, Kelce, now sporting a kelly-green suit with white dress shirt underneath, joined Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in the booth. He was only supposed to be there for the third quarter, but he stayed for most of the second half—much to the chagrin of many fans, including some Eagles supporters.

"Huge win for the Falcons, their fan base, and the rest of football who got rewarded at the end. We are all hoping this is the end of the Jason Kelce ESPN infatuation phase," one fan wrote .

"The NFL and its TV partners all want a part of Taylor Swift & her fanbase. ESPN has not had the privilege of having Swift attend a Kansas City Chiefs Monday Night Football game, so it went all in with Jason Kelce in their appeal to Swifties. Not sure it worked," another fan wrote .

"Also, Jason Kelce should be banned from speaking in the booth again. He was absolutely horrible," another added .

"Jason Kelce seems like an OK dude, but I mean, when does the schtick get stale?" another fan questioned .

"I'm over this Jason Kelce thing as well," wrote yet another fan.

As the game came to a close, it wasn’t just the chatter around Kelce that got quieter—the Eagles fell silent as well, blowing a 21-15 lead with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

On a crucial third-and-3 at the Atlanta 10-yard line, the Eagles chose to pass instead of run, hoping to either gain a first down or score a touchdown while running down more of the clock. The result was a drop by running back Saquon Barkley, forcing the Eagles to kick a field goal to go up by six.

However, the Falcons responded swiftly, marching 70 yards in six plays in just over a minute. Kirk Cousins connected with wide receiver Drake London for a seven-yard touchdown, sealing a 22-21 victory for Atlanta.

Despite the loss and the backlash, Kelce isn’t going away anytime soon. He signed a deal with ESPN back in May to be a regular contributor on Monday Night Countdown, effectively replacing Robert Griffin III, who was let go just weeks before the NFL regular season began.
