When Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers went down in the second quarter with what was later announced as an abdominal strain , the 101,892 in attendance at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium briefly held its breath.

Ewers would eventually rise to his feet and walk into the injury tent in visible pain, meanwhile the crowd also rose to its feet to welcome Arch Manning to the game.

In just two quarters, Manning was nearly flawless. He completed nine of his 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns and went viral for his 67-yard rushing touchdown on a read option where he was clocked moving at 21 miles per hour, a far cry from his uncles Peyton and Eli, pocket passers who were never known for their athleticism.

Manning also made school history as his 67-yard touchdown was the longest rushing touchdown by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young’s 80-yard touchdown against Oklahoma State in 2005.

After his first significant playing time as a Longhorn, Manning would stay on the field for a few minutes, interacting with Texas fans, including a family with young kids, instead of immediately heading to the locker room.

I was on the field for over ten minutes postgame and did not observe any other player do anything resembling this despite the roughly 100 Longhorn fans on the field.

Manning and the No. 1 Longhorns (3-0) will Louisiana-Monroe (2-1), led by Oklahoma transfer General Booty, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
