Six NFL Contenders Plummet in Updated Power Rankings

Week 2 is in the books and there are nine 0-2 teams around the NFL, as well as a few surprise undefeated teams such as the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings.

On Tuesday, September 17, CBS Sports released its updated Week 3 NFL power rankings and there were some major shakeups inside the top 10.

Six popular Super Bowl contenders also plummeted in CBS Sports senior writer Pete Prisco's rankings.

The biggest faller of the week was the Miami Dolphins, who dropped 13 spots to No. 23 overall. Miami suffered a likely season-altering loss when starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa exited in the third quarter of "Thursday Night Football" with another bad-looking concussion .

Tagovailoa, who has "no plans to retire" according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport , remains out indefinitely while he recovers.

Here were the other five contenders who took a fall after Week 2:

No 8: San Francisco 49ers (dropped from No. 2)

No. 11: Detroit Lions (dropped from No. 4)

No. 13: Dallas Cowboys (dropped from No. 6)

No. 15: Baltimore Ravens (dropped from No. 7)

No. 18: Philadelphia Eagles (dropped from No. 8)

All six contenders suffered surprising losses in Week 2, including the Eagles, who allowed Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons offense to drive 70 yards in just over a minute for the game-winning touchdown on the road on Monday night.

"That was a big-time choke late by the Eagles and head coach Nick Sirianni," Prisco wrote.
