Jordan Spieth puts date on injury comeback after season-ending surgery

Jordan Spieth has revealed he is aiming to be tournament-ready at the very beginning of 2025 after the PGA Tour star was forced to undergo surgery on a wrist injury.

Spieth failed to find his best form in 2024, ending the campaign in 67th in the FedEx Cup standings, having missed the final two playoffs in the BMW Championship and Tour Championship. The former world No. 1's lack of form was not helped by injury, having suffered from a wrist problem throughout the year.

Following his last performance at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last month, the two-time major champion opened up on his fitness issue and revealed the next course of action would be surgery.

Some weeks on, Spieth has undergone treatment and provided an update on his progress. "I think that by 2025, by Jan. 1, it’s my goal to be tournament-ready," he told Golfweek. "And for me, that would be not just going out and seeing how it feels, you know, but expecting to play at my ceiling.

"I’ll have an opportunity to work really hard on my short game before I can even swing. So I should be able to get back to that work pretty soon and hopefully get that really dialed so that I can then prioritize getting back to hitting balls and then eventually playing so I don’t know how long that’ll take."

The injury has given the PGA Tour star a rare lengthy stretch away from the golf course, which will include him missing the Presidents Cup this month. It has however given Spieth the chance to spend some quality time with his two children.

"I have three and a one-year-old. So that’s what I’ve been doing," he added. "You’d think, you know, what are you doing with all this time? Is it driving you crazy? Those are the questions I’ve gotten and I’ve had like one or two days where I’ve turned the TV on before 8 p.m.

"I mean, it’s just busy. I don’t know why, or how, or what with, but I’m busy. And that’s a good thing. I’m loving being a dad. It’s cool to have this time during the day with my kids too, you know. I can do half of what I can normally do."
