The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s pop-up drivers’ licensing program will visit a dozen counties this month. Tuesday, staffers were in the Woodford County Courthouse’s Fiscal Courtroom to assist people who’d made appointments. Rich Seiler and his wife Jessica were among their clients.

“As far as the process was concerned, once I had all the documents all situated and ready for them, it was perfectly normal and just a minimal time frame to get it in and get done and out.”

Until the summer of ’22, people could still get a license renewal or REAL ID at their circuit court clerks’ office. Transportation Cabinet officials cited security enhancements as a reason for the move to regional offices and began offering pop-ups. Seiler said he and Jessica appreciated not having to visit a regional office.

“She actually made the appointments for us. And then I said, I just kind of came along, just to go ahead and upgrade as well.”

“So did you get it for four or eight years?”

    “I did the four years.”

Seiler said it took about 10 minutes to get their REAL IDs, which is one form of identification now needed for airline travel.
