Rehoboth Beach extends ocean closure to second day

REHOBOTH BEACH — Rough surf, riptide danger and the ongoing effects of medical waste washing up on beaches from an unidentified source have forced officials to close access to the ocean in Rehoboth Beach for a second day.

While the public beach remains open, authorities recommend wearing sturdy, closed toe shoes while beachcombing, as discarded syringes, some with hypodermic needles still attached, have been discovered among the debris.

Delmarva towns, beaches and parks began shutting down access to the ocean over the weekend, as reports of the medical waste washing up began to appear.
