📝Variations
Do you want to change up this recipe and make it your own? Here are some ways that you can do that!
Whole Milk: Whole milk can be used in place of buttermilk, but the flavor and texture will be a bit different.
Honey Butter: Try using molasses, maple syrup, or light Kayro syrup for sweet butter variations.
Whipped Honey Butter: You can chill the honey butter until solid, whip it with a hand mixer, and serve it spread on the inside of your hot biscuits. If you do this, make the honey butter the day before so it has plenty of time to chill.
Store the biscuits and honey butter separately. The biscuits can be left at room temperature in an air-tight container for up to 4 days. The honey butter should be refrigerated in an air-tight container and will last for up to a week.
Serve With
Serve these honey butter biscuits with all your favorite breakfast foods like eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, and breakfast casseroles.
💭 Tips
Cut your butter into slices to make cutting it into the flour easier.
Keep your butter and cream cheese refrigerated until you’re ready to cut them into the flour, so they’re as cold as possible.
If you don’t have buttermilk, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a liquid measuring cup, then add enough milk to hit the 1-cup line. Set aside for about 5 minutes, and you have buttermilk!
Your biscuit dough will look dry and crumbly. That’s okay! Kneading it will smooth it out into a dough.
⁉️ FAQ
Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.
Why does buttermilk make biscuits so good?
Buttermilk’s high fat content makes biscuits richer, and its acidity works with the leavening ingredients in the dough to make the biscuits taller and fluffier. The acidity also adds a slight tang to the biscuits.
What can I do if I don’t have buttermilk for a recipe?
Just make your own! Use 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice per 1 cup of milk to make your own buttermilk. Just let the mixture set for about 5 minutes and use as you normally would.
Why were my biscuits dry?
Dry biscuits are usually the result of using too much flour, cooking them at a temperature that’s too high, or over-mixing. Be sure to mix the dough ingredients until just combined, knead it until smooth, and measure your flour carefully.
How do you properly measure flour?
To prevent packing and using too much flour, loosely spoon the flour into your measuring cup and level it off with a knife. NEVER scoop your flour out directly with the measuring cup.
