Maine Coon Cat's New 'Shaved' Look Leaves Feline Sibling So Confused

Have you ever received a haircut that made you want to go into hiding? Most of us have, and that’s why we stick to a stylist after finding one who understands our preferences. Even our animals seem to understand the importance of a polished look.

So it’s hard to imagine what this gorgeous Maine Coon might have been feeling after getting a little more than a trim. However, it’s probably safe to assume he feels a little exposed in some areas.

Check out his new hairdo in this video from @giantmainecooncat shared on September 12:

Oh, my! Samson is rocking this new breezy style. Only magnificent Maine Coon could pull off this look so well, though. It almost appears he’s wearing gray fur booties to match his long, gorgeous, tiger-like mane. Whoever gave him his coif understands the importance of having great style, even if it isn’t his first choice. When his feline sibling came over to check out his new trim, he almost seemed to chuckle. Ha! Perhaps he wasn’t laughing as much as he was concerned that he may be next in line at the groomer. His mom, Madison (@ madtownexotics ), explained that Sampson came from a loving home that gave him excellent care, but we’re unable to keep up with his brushing. So when she adopted him, her veterinarian recommended a shave to get him back on track. This is no doubt the way to go, rather than tugging at his fur to remove multiple mats. Luckily, he still looks like a million bucks, and it won’t be long before he’s wearing his long, luxurious coat again.

When Do Long-Haired Cats Need to Be Shaved?

As humans, we might imagine shaving off long coats in the summer would feel cool and comfortable for cats; however, VCA animal hospitals report it isn’t necessary. They reveal cats get along just fine in summer temperatures without ever needing to be shaved. Still, those with long hair who object to regular brushing but are prone to getting mats may benefit from having it done periodically. They advise that should long-haired cats get tangles and require shaving during the summer months, to keep at least an inch of fur to prevent sunburn and damage to the skin. As shaving sometimes requires sedation, it’s best to keep your cat’s fur brushed if possible to prevent the need for this procedure.

Hopefully, for Sampson, this will be the only time he will need to walk around feeling exposed. Luckily, this gorgeous Maine Coon looks handsome, no matter how he styles his hair.
