On Tuesday, September 17, Vote or Else — a new cultural initiative spearheaded by Marvin Bing and Pastor Mike McBride — dropped a new song "Still Here" featuring the State Property rappers, Jay Electronica, The Roots' Black Thought, Jokata Eaddy and Metal Feet. The inspirational song produced by Stojakavic is the first single from the organization's upcoming project Or Else . The EP is a collaborative effort between musicians, cultural influencers, activists, and community leaders with one common goal.
"In this election season, we are committed to protecting our democracy against threats like Project 2025," Marvin Bing said. "By infusing culture through music, fashion, and direct-to-community via cultural engagement, we aim to inspire civic participation and ensure every voice is heard especially from infrequent, uncommitted, and disengaged voters."
"We're just trying to do our part," Havoc said. "The artists are like, 'Let’s talk about the issues we are really dealing with and how we are working with our communities. Our brothers and sisters need to band together to really talk, educate, and fight for what we want and use our voices and votes to make it happen.' It’s Vote or else!"
"Still Here" arrived on the same day Vote or Else is set to hold its voter mobilization event in Detroit. The event will consist of several activities including a town hall and a "Democracy or Else" debate featuring actor Hill Harper, activists Tamika Mallory and Phil Agnew, Win with Black Women Founder Jotaka Eaddy, Hip-Hop Journalist Shaheem Reid, Nipsey Hussle's brother Blacc Sam along with artists Killer Mike , Pusha T , Styles P, YelloPain, and Icewear Vezzo. The night will end with a concert featuring performances from Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Icewear Vezzo, Babyface Ray and more.
"Vote or Else is a campaign that truly represents where we are as a country; it's a call to action for our communities to unite against hate and disinformation by exercising the rights our elders fought for," Pastor Mike McBride said. "As we gather in Detroit, we’re bringing together faith leaders, musicians, cultural influencers, designers, activists, and activists dedicated to civic engagement ahead for the 2024 elections. We know our future really hangs in the balance, and we need to vote because ourlives depend on it."
Vote or Else's event will be livestreamed beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the event, visit their official website now.
