Jerry Jones Gives Delusional Response to Cowboys' Blowout Loss vs. Saints

Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season featured several shocking outcomes, including the Dallas Cowboys' 44-19 blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys looked anything but ready as the Saints dragged them across their home field, leaving time to tell how America's Team responds in Week 3.

Following Sunday's shocking, defeat, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the loss was "extraordinarily disappointing." While many Dallas fans are likely in agreement with that statement, they're not too happy with the 81-year-old's latest soundbite.

In Tuesday's interview with 105.3 The Fan, Jones mentioned a bright side to the Week 2 loss. The Cowboys owner revealed that he's fine with the team having some in-season hiccups if it means having postseason success.

"We’ve been a good-to-very-good team during the season over the last four-five years with Mike (McCarthy) and we haven’t done well in the playoffs," Jones said on-air. "Let’s trade some challenges during the season for doing well in the playoffs."

Jones isn't wrong about Dallas' recent history. Since Mike McCarthy took over as the head coach in 2020, the Cowboys have the fourth-most regular season wins (43) in the NFL, only trailing the Kansas City Chiefs (53), Buffalo Bills (50) and Green Bay Packers (44).

The Cowboys have also finished each of the last three seasons with 12 wins, further highlighting their recent regular-season success. Unfortunately, McCarthy's team has fallen apart in each subsequent playoff run, proven by Dallas' 1-3 postseason record during that stretch.

Most teams would trade regular season struggles for playoff success, but that isn't how reality works. The NFL postseason is when the real contenders prove themselves and suffering embarrassing leading up to the playoffs doesn't guarantee that the Cowboys will enter that mix.

Instead of giving Cowboys fans more Jerry-isms, Jones must look in the mirror and realize that his lackluster roster construction is a reason why the Cowboys fell to the Saints. Dallas' de facto general manager failed to bolster the team's defense with big-name free agents, instead opting to sign past-their-prime defenders like Eric Kendricks, Carl Lawson and Linval Joseph.

Jones' response on 105.3 The Fan has clearly failed to comfort the Cowboys' fanbase judging by several social media posts.

"Because this team totally learned their lesson from the Arizona, Buffalo and San Francisco losses last year," one sarcastic fan replied to Jones' quote.

"There won't be any playoffs this year if we continue to play like we did on Sunday," another frustrated Cowboys supporter responded. "Still haven't shown we can stop the run or play action."

"Jones knew they needed interior front seven help before the trade deadline last season," another annoyed fan replied. "It's been downhill since."

The Cowboys' first opportunity to bounce back from their latest blowout loss won't be easy. They're set to host the Baltimore Ravens, who are hungry to win following an 0-2 start, at AT&T Stadium on Sunday.
