A US Postal Service worker plans to retire early after winning a lottery scratch-off top prize .

The winner, from Washington DC , took a route to and through Maryland and crossed state lines to play Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. He just collected a $1 million top prize on a Millionaire’s Club scratch-off.

He bought instant tickets by chance at the 7-Eleven at 4450 Solomons Island Road. He said it was an unplanned stop and he waited until he got home to scratch them.

He matched the winning number 54 for the corresponding $1 million top prize in the second row of the game’s play area. He simply said "Thank you, Lord" when he realized he won the top prize.

The winner, who worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years, is now considering retirement. He said he also plans to pay off bills with his prize.

The Millionaire’s Club instant ticket went on sale in July with five $1 million top prizes. This win leaves three remaining along with five unclaimed $50,000 prizes, 10 $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $20 to $5,000.
