AC Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic , who used to play for Manchester United, has revealed his admiration for Liverpool ahead of the Italian outfit coming up against the Reds in the Champions League .

Ibrahimovic is now an advisor to the famous Serie A side while his son also plays for the AC Milan U19s team, who drew 0-0 with Liverpool earlier in the day . The Swede, who is now 42, played for Milan twice during his career and finished playing there last year when he retired from soccer.

"We're playing against an amazing club that have good experience," Ibrahimovic said live on Amazon Prime ahead of the match. "They have a new coach. Also they brought in some players but not too many. They have the team from last year that was not pretty good but very good."

"I don't think any manager or any team is scared to play the other team but we have a lot of respect for the quality and the players and the history of Milan," Arne Slot said during his press conference Monday.

"The first one that comes to my mind is a Dutch player — Tijjani Reijnders — who has done really well over here and also for the Dutch national team last week. So, they have quality players.

"We're not scared but we do respect all of their players because they have shown last Saturday that they are in good form. They had a very good 4-0 win. So, we respect Milan a lot, but 'scared' is not the word we would use."

Liverpool.com says: Ibrahimovic's respect for Liverpool is clear and it should be a good game at the San Siro. The Reds are favorites and a win on matchday one would be a big boost. Finishing inside the top eight spots in the league standings would be massive in terms of avoiding the round-of-32 and two extra fixtures in an already hectic calendar.
