Evan: Why can't Giants replicate 2024 Mets and revive their season?

As the Giants look to avoid an 0-3 start, fans have already begun calling for a quarterback change, while the head coach has already fielded questions from reporters about his job security.

Meanwhile, many have already declared the season dead, and that the 2024 season will now be about getting a high enough draft pick to take their quarterback of the future.

But does it have to be that way? Evan says absolutely not, and for context, he pointed to another team in this city that was declared dead by many, and have since become one of the hottest teams in baseball for a prolonged stretch to get into a playoff spot.

Evan wants to know why these Giants can’t replicate the trajectory of the 2024 Mets?

“I have reason to believe. Sometimes, belief comes from just taking a deep breath and thinking about the recent past,” Evan said before playing clips of fellow co-hosts burying the Mets before they breathed new life into the season.

“From a ‘colon cleanse’ to a Wild Card race. That’s from two months ago,” Evan said. “Here’s the thing. This is not to make fun of Gio or BT, because those are opinions that most people had...and then what happened? The Mets turned their season around...and with just 12 games to go in the season, the Mets are the third Wild Card team.

“Now, imagine what’s been said of the Giants over the last week and a half. ‘The head coach is a buffoon, the quarterback is inept, the core is rotten, they gotta trade everybody.’ Can the New York Football Giants of 2024 replicate the Mets of 2024?”

Of course, the Giants would need the personnel to pull it off. Francisco Lindor is a legit MVP candidate for the Mets, while Sean Manaea has been a dominant starter atop the rotation. Evan says the players are there to make it happen, even if it means just finding a way to steal wins like the team did two years ago under Brian Daboll.

“Dexter Lawrence is a hell of a football player,” Evan said. “Daniel Jones certainly isn’t Francisco Lindor, but we’ve seen Daniel Jones quarterback a team to the postseason.”
