Caroline Sheriff’s Office announced an undercover drug operation has led to the arrest of a Martinsville man who is now being held in Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.

Caroline narcotics investigators were investigating Charles James Cousins III up until Sept. 12, the day he was arrested during a traffic stop, noted CCSO.

According to investigators, Cousins had only recently come to Caroline from Martinsville, and CCSO said it’s believed he was living in hotels in the Carmel Church area.

When he was stopped on Sept. 12, Cousins already had four outstanding warrants that CCSO investigators obtained against him for distribution of meth. He was taken into custody based on those warrants, explained CCSO.

But Sgt. Williams and K-9 Ike searched the vehicle he was driving and reportedly found about $1,200 of suspected meth and 5 suspected fentanyl pills.

Because of the items found in the vehicle, CCSO said it filed an additional charge of possessing meth with the intent to distribute and one count of possession of fentanyl.

CCSO also reported that the vehicle search uncovered “a large amount of various other pills that will be identified by the Virginia Department of Forensic Science,” said CCSO.
