The Kansas City Chiefs were dealt major injury news following their Week 2 win over Cincinnati, as starting running back Isiah Pacheco (fibula) is set to miss approximately 6-8 weeks of game action.

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday, September 16 that the plan was to "go with the guys we have now," while also acknowledging general manager Brett Veach had his eyes on possible fill-ins in free agency.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Tuesday, Kansas City is "expected to sign" veteran running back Kareem Hunt, who made his lone Pro Bowl as a rookie third-round pick with the Chiefs in 2017.

The 29-year-old completed a free agent visit with the team and passed a physical earlier on Tuesday. Per Schultz, he is expected to be placed on the Chiefs' practice squad, but could be called up as soon as Week 3.

"Kareem Hunt spent the last five years with the #Browns after starting his career in Kansas City," Schultz wrote on X . "Now, he returns and will begin on the practice squad, with the expectation that he'll be elevated soon. KC drafted both Patrick Mahomes and Hunt in 2017, and now they’re reunited."

Kansas City will travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons on "Monday Night Football" in Week 3.

In addition to Hunt, the Chiefs are expected to roll with a running back committee featuring undrafted rookie Carson Steele and offseason signing Samaje Perine.
