LINDENHURST, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man pleaded guilty to murder for fatally stabbing his wife in her backyard in January, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced Tuesday.

Ryszard Murawski, 44, of Lindenhurst, pled guilty to murder and is expected to be sentenced to 22 years to life in prison.

According to court documents, at approximately 8:33 p.m. on Jan. 3, Suffolk County Police received a 911 call from the couple’s 15-year-old son stating that his father, Ryszard Murawski, had stabbed his mother, Wioleta Murawski, and
then fled in a black GMC pick-up truck.

During the call, the teen begged the police for help as he tried to save his mother’s life. He informed police that when he returned home from his friend’s house, he heard his mother screaming for help in the backyard.

He said that he then ran to the backyard where he saw Ryszard Murawski stabbing his mother with a large, serrated knife.

The boy jumped on his father and struggled with him until his mother was able to break free, officials said.

Wioleta Murawski was able to stumble across the street before collapsing with her son by her side, police said.

She was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

After the stabbing, Ryszard Murawski fled in a black GMC pick-up truck and refused to pull over when police attempted to stop him, prompting a chase to take place.

Multiple police units pursued Ryszard Murawski for over seven miles with lights and sirens before he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the side of a building.

Murawski’s home surveillance system captured the brutal attack on his wife.

He is due back in court on Oct. 17.

"This is a tragic case of domestic violence that ended with the senseless death of Wioleta Murawski and horrific trauma to their child. This defendant will now have to pay for his actions in prison," DA Tierney said. "Domestic violence is never the answer. I urge anyone in an abusive relationship to reach out for help through our partner agencies linked below. In an emergency, always call 911.”
