Did Jets Make Mistake Not Drafting Brock Bowers?

While Allen Lazard has been resurrected and Braelon Allen is a pleasant surprise, New York Jets fans can't help but wonder how good their offense might be if all those mock drafts would have been right.

Remember for months and months leading up to the NFL Draft when every expert projected the Jets selecting Georgia tight end Brock Bowers to give Aaron Rodgers another weapon in the passing game? The analysts were right about Bowers. But wrong about the team that he's helping this season.

Instead of drafting Bowers, the Jets selected Penn State offensive lineman Olu Fashanu. Through two games, it appears they made the wrong choice. And that the pundits were correct.

While Fashanu has yet to get on the field and take a snap with Rodgers and New York's offense (seeing only five plays on special teams), Bowers is lighting it up with the Las Vegas Raiders. Through two weeks he leads all NFL tight ends in catches (15), yards (156) and first downs (eight). He had nine grabs for 98 yards in the Raiders' upset win at the Baltimore Ravens last weekend.

He is the first tight end in league history to have at least five catches and at least 50 receiving yards in each of the first two games of his career.

Former New England Patriots' tight end and future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski this week praised Bowers and said he is "on track to be better than me."

Meanwhile, the Jets have exactly two catches for 16 yards from their tight-end duo of Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert (0 grabs on three targets).

The Jets drafted Fashanu 11th overall. Behind him the Broncos took quarterback Bo Nix 12th and the Raiders nabbed Bowers at No. 13.
