Kareem Hunt is returning to Kansas City.

The Chiefs are signing the veteran running back to their practice squad after losing star Isiah Pacheco for 6-8 weeks to a fibula fracture, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

Hunt, who has played the last five seasons with the Browns, was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

The 29-year-old has appeared in 91 games throughout his NFL career, recording 4,436 yards on the ground for 40 touchdowns and 1,890 receiving yards for 17 touchdown catches.

After rushing for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns during his rookie season in Kansas City in 2017, Hunt was waived by the Chiefs when video surfaced of him pushing and kicking a woman in a Cleveland hotel.

He is expected to compete for snaps with rookie Carson Steele and veteran Samaje Perine as Pacheco recovers over the coming months.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Monday that general manager Brett Veach was looking at outside options at the position, but that he had confidence in the team’s current running back room.

“We go with the guys that we have here,” Reid told reporters. “Veach is going through his list, looking at people. We’ll just see where that goes. But we’re blessed to have some good people here.”

The Chiefs could also get some help at running back in a couple of weeks with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who is eligible to return from the reserve/non-football illness list after the Chiefs’ fourth game of the season as he deals with PTSD.

The Chiefs visit the Falcons on Sunday.

Hope 10 comes back strong. He plays at 110 percent on every play. Hunt was good as a Chief. Hope he has his head on straight and ready to play.
