Cody Johnson has continued to climb the ranks in Nashville since self-releasing his debut album Black and White Label in 2006. From independent artist to top name, the Texan recently saw his single “Dirt Cheap” certified Gold by the RIAA. Despite finding solo success, Johnson still enjoys collaborating with his fellow stars. In fact, the “‘Til You Can’t” singer has been hinting at a project with best-selling country artist Carrie Underwood for some time now. And now he has revealed exactly when that project is coming.

Cody Johnson Announces That “I’m Gonna Love You” Is Coming Next Week

After nearly a year of teasing an upcoming project with Carrie Underwood, Cody Johnson is “thrilled” to announce that “I’m Gonna Love You” hits the airwaves Sept. 27. The four-time 2024 CMA Award nominee shared a photo of himself with Underwood to his social media accounts Tuesday (Sept. 17.)

“Thank you @carrieunderwood for joining me on this one and making it so special,” Johnson wrote in the caption. “Can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”

    A Deluxe Album Is Coming

Cody Johnson first whet fans’ appetites ahead of the 2023 CMT Awards, when he revealed that he had something in the pipeline with the former American Idol champion. The announcement ignited a firestorm of speculation that the duet would appear on Leather, Johnson’s ninth studio album. However, Leather came and went last November with no mention of Underwood.

Instead, “I’m Gonna Love You” will appear on the recently announced deluxe version of Leather—along with 12 other brand-new tracks—this fall.

News of the Carrie Underwood collab has only stoked more excitement for the album’s second half—which, Johnson boldly tells ABC Audio, promises even “more potential No. 1 hits.”

Judging by fan reactions, “I’m Gonna Love You” just may help prove the “Human” singer right. “This is gonna be the best song to hit country music,” predicted one Instagram user.
