Granny's Southern Style Cornbread Recipe: Easy & Delicious!

This is my granny's recipe for Southern style homemade cornbread. When you are having greenbeans, pinto beans, fried potatoes or even mashed potatoes, cornbread is a must have on the menu and you only need just a few ingredients to make these tasty cornbread muffins!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 Cups of Cornmeal

1 Egg

2 Tablespoons of Oil

1/2 Cup of Buttermilk (or until the cornmeal mixture becomes batter like)

Directions:

Wash off and crack your egg removing the yolk and the egg white and place them both into a bowl and dispose of the shell.

Add your 1 1/2 cups of Cornmeal, 2 tablespoons of oil and 1/2 cup of buttermilk to the bowl and mix the ingredients well.

Spray a muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray and preheat your oven to 375 degrees

Once the cornmeal batter becomes the consistency of cake batter, pour the batter into the sprayed muffin tins and place the cornbread into the oven for around 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes are up, turn the oven off and take the corn bread muffins out of the oven. To check to make sure that the muffins are done place a toothpick in the center of the muffins. If it comes out clean, the cornbread is done.

You can serve cornbread warm or later, it really just depends. My family likes to serve cornbread warm straight out of the oven alongside some pinto beans and a slice of raw onion or tomato or we sometimes even add cornbread as a side to fried chicken!
