Caleb Williams Facing Backlash for Treatment of C.J. Stroud

In a Sunday night battle between two of the NFL's biggest young stars at the quarterback position, it was C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans taking down Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears.

Williams threw two costly interceptions and was also sacked seven times in the 19-13 loss. On top of that, he may have also learned a lesson about accepting help from others. Following the game, Stroud attempted to offer words of support to Williams.

While Williams did thank him after the fact, he also tried to walk away from Stroud after he told him to stop taking as many hits as he did. It was an awkward moment that led to Stroud telling him to come back, as he was clearly not done giving the rookie advice.

NFL fans immediately took notice of this and are blasting Williams because of it.

"he tried to walk off instead of listening," wrote one fan.

"Caleb just lost. He was not feeling a lecture," added another.

"Caleb was too egotistical to listen to a man who has had success in his shoes. He wasn’t trying to hear anything CJ was trying to say," replied another.

Williams, as most rookies do, is learning just how difficult the jump from college to the pros is. As we saw against the Texans when he spun out of a sack like he would at USC, except instead of making a miraculous throw to a receiver, it ended up being an interception into triple coverage.

It doesn't help that the Bears have a weak offensive line unit and ineffective run game, putting Williams under a ton of duress. However, as implied by the fans, it could be worth listening to someone like Stroud, who shined in his rookie season and already established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Williams and the Bears will return to action on Sunday, September 22, when they visit the Indianapolis Colts in a game that will air on CBS at 1:00 ET.
