AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The Jones Library is hosting its first-ever Repair Café on Saturday, September 28, offering free repair services to the public.
The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. in the library’s Woodbury Room. Residents are encouraged to bring in small household items such as computers, tablets, and other devices for help with repairs.
The event aims to assist people in fixing everyday items rather than replacing them, fostering a sustainable and cost-effective solution for common repairs. “We hope to help with as many repairs as we can,” says Janet Ryan, event organizer. “Although we can’t promise to fix every issue, our team will certainly try, and we’re excited to offer this service to the community.”
All repairs will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis. To improve their chances of having their items repaired, participants are encouraged to register in advance through the online sign-up form . Walk-ins will be accepted if time allows, but priority will be given to those who pre-register.
In addition to offering repair services, the event is also looking for skilled individuals to volunteer as repairers. Volunteers can sign up to assist by registering through a separate form provided by the library.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, community members can contact Janet Ryan at (413) 259-3223.
The Repair Café initiative is part of a broader movement to promote sustainability and reduce waste, giving a second life to broken or malfunctioning items while offering valuable skills and support to the community.
