Ohio State University police: Man wanted for Monday night shooting near campus arrested

A suspect wanted for shooting a homeless man in the leg Monday night on or near the Ohio State University campus has been apprehended after an extensive manhunt, OSU police confirmed Tuesday evening.

Richard Patridge, 31, has been charged with felonious assault for the shooting, Franklin County Municipal Court records show. Columbus police apprehended him behind a Target in the 1700 block of Olentangy River Road in the Lennox Town Center.

Police also recovered a handgun believed to belong to Patridge near the Olentangy River.

Patridge is accused of shooting an unhoused man in the leg near a homeless encampment Monday night at John Herrick Drive and Olentangy Road. The man who Patridge is accused of shooting told OSU police that Patridge shot him during an altercation. The victim, who was naked and bleeding, fled the scene and stopped a bus to get help.

The victim was transported to OSU's Wexner Medical Center in stable condition.

In addition to the shooting Monday night, Patridge was already being sought by Columbus police, accused of kidnapping his former girlfriend at gunpoint on a motorcycle earlier this month. The ex-girlfriend later escaped.

Patridge was also wanted for pistol whipping his ex-girlfriend's reported boyfriend on Aug. 21 — the same man who he is accused of shooting Monday night.

Patridge is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday at 9 a.m., Franklin County Municipal Court records show.
