SOUTH BEND ― Breeze Airways announced Tuesday that it will add new service between South Bend International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport starting Nov. 8.

Breeze, which also recently announced service from South Bend to Orlando and Fort Meyers, calls itself a premium low-cost carrier. In a release, the airline said it will offer promotional one-way fares to Dulles from $49 on Mondays and Fridays.

Service to Orlando runs Thursdays and Sundays starting Nov. 7 and Fort Myers on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting Feb. 5.

“Washington D.C. has been one of our targeted destinations as there is considerable demand from our region,” Mike Daigle, CEO and executive director of the airport, said in a release . “We are thrilled that Breeze, the newest airline to serve SBN, is adding a third destination from our region.”

Connecting South Bend with Washington should have a positive impact for the South Bend area, David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze, said in a release. "This new route will allow the community to more affordably and conveniently travel right from their own backyard.”

A press event was scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the airport to officially announce the new service.

“The South Bend region is on a roll with announcement after announcement and this news is just one example of the truly remarkable growth we’re seeing across the state,” Indiana Secretary of Commerce David Rosenberg said in the same release. “As we invest more in our communities through programs like READI, it’s vital that we have more transit opportunities in and out of communities like South Bend to keep pace with increasing demand.”

Breeze said it doesn’t charge change or cancellation fees up to 60 minutes prior to departure and offers other benefits such as free family seating and a la carte pricing, among other things.

When Breeze announced its two Florida flights in August, it became the fifth airline to fly in and out of South Bend, joining Allegiant Air , American Airlines , Delta Air Lines and United Airlines .

In addition to the three upcoming Breeze flights, South Bend International's carriers currently offer direct service to Chicago; Detroit; Atlanta; Minneapolis; Dallas-Fort Worth; Charlotte, N.C.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Las Vegas, Phoenix/Mesa, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Punta Gorda/Ft. Myers, Orlando/Sanford and Sarasota/Bradenton.
