Power 4 programs like the Florida State Seminoles, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Kansas Jayhawks and West Virginia Mountaineers have not had great starts in 2024.

Florida State fell out of the top 25 after consecutive losses to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Boston College Eagles. The Seminoles' latest loss was to the Memphis Tigers in Week 3.

Rece Davis discussed Florida State's problems this season in a recent " College GameDay Podcast " episode. The Seminoles became the first-ever team to start the season inside the top 10 and finish 0-3.

Davis questioned the culture that head coach Mike Norvell has set in Tallahassee. He talked about how being known for free agency in college football could hurt the program. Davis clarified that he still believes Norvell is a good coach.

"But if free agency becomes your culture and then you getting the next free agent class or transfer class or portal class becomes your identity," Davis said. "Man, it's tough if things start going wrong, and you know, even to the point when Norvell, who I still believe is a really good coach, who's been dealt a really difficult set of circumstances and had some things go against him."

Florida State lost players like quarterback Tate Rodemaker, offensive tackle Daughtry Richardson, receiver Vandrevious Jacobs, defensive lineman Dennis Briggs and quarterback AJ Duffy to the transfer portal.

This offseason, the Seminoles added players like former Oregon State Beavers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, former Georgia Bulldogs edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr., former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Shawn Murphy, and former Alabama offensive lineman Terrence Ferguson from the portal.

Florida State can earn its first win of the year against the California Golden Bears on Sept. 21. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
