( KRON ) — A wildfire erupted in San Jose on Tuesday afternoon, closing multiple off-ramps from US-101 and forcing nearby businesses to shelter in place, the San Jose Fire Department said.

The fire was at Tully Road and northbound US-101. It was reported at 3:20 p.m. SJFD described the fire as “large.” The scene has since been cleared.

The off-ramp to Tully Road, as well as the on and off-ramps to Story Road, were closed, according to California Highway Patrol’s traffic log. Tully Road was also shut down in both directions near the fire.

The fire damaged a utility pole. The exterior of a hotel was damaged, but no structures were involved.

As heavy smoke drifted south, SJFD advised residents south of the fire to shelter-in-place and close their doors and windows. No evacuation orders or warnings were issued. No injuries were reported.

The public was told to avoid the area and find alternate routes of travel.
