Spanish Fort getting 6 parks — including one for dogs

SPANISH FORT, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Spanish Fort officials announced a 146-acre park, called Honor Park, is coming to the city.

City officials plan to keep the area as green as possible, leaving trees and natural habitat in the space.

The city also has five other parks in the works: Valor Park, Spanish Fort Container Park, Integrity Park, Spirit Park and Loyalty Park, which will be the city’s first dog park.

Spanish Fort Mayor Michael M. McMillan told WKRG News 5 that a large sum of the budget needed for these parks was approved Monday night.

“So we approved that last night,” McMillan said. “That has some funding for some of the parks and accessories items. By that, bathrooms and things like that and there to go with these projects.”

Some of the park renovations have already begun, and some will not start for another year. In the meantime, McMillan encouraged the community to fill out the city survey to express what they feel should be done with Honor Park.
