Micah Parsons Talks 2024 Expectations at Raising Cane's (Exclusive)

Micah Parsons has been hard at work with the Dallas Cowboys this year. Through two weeks, the star edge rusher has seven tackles, half of a stuff, one sack, and a pass deflection that resulted in an interception. The Cowboys are in the middle of a potential championship season. At least, that's the expectation as it is every year. He took a break from the grind of the early season to work a shift at Raising Cane's, and Total Apex Sports was fortunate enough to be in attendance.

Micah Parsons Opens Up on Expectations in Dallas

In Dallas, the expectation, whether fair or not, is to win a championship. Anything less feels like a failure. By that definition, the Cowboys have failed for the last few seasons, but the expectation hasn't changed. Parsons says that's a part of being an NFL player, not just a Cowboy. He said, "You wouldn't play anything without a championship mindset or wanting to be a champion. I don't think it's just a Dallas thing. I just think if you're a true competitor, you always want to have a championship mindset."

With that said, the expectation is to win, and Parsons knows that each NFL season has ebbs and flows. The Cowboys have already experienced this in two weeks. In Week 1, they dominated the Cleveland Browns. In Week 2, the New Orleans Saints stunned the world by dominating Dallas. In an effort to keep the focus on the ultimate goal, Parsons says he and all athletes have to "restart, reset, and refocus."

The edge rusher added, "There's always highs and there's always lows. God always has a way of humbling you. Whatever comes to the top will always come to the bottom. You never really want to get too high or too low. You always want to stay neutral." It's something he hopes the Dallas Mavericks put to use this season when they try to avenge their NBA Finals loss. He called Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving "special" and noted that he's hopeful his Cowboys can make their run just like the Mavs did last NBA season.

    Micah Parsons Loves Raising Cane's

Right now, most NFL players are hyper-focused on the season. It's still very early, but that is still a crucial part of the season. For some, it's already beginning to get dark early. For others, things look as bright as ever. Parsons, while knee-deep in the season, took the time to step away and work with the crew at the Post Malone x Cowboys-themed Raising Cane's restaurant in Dallas.

The former All-Pro defender said it was very important to find time to do things like that. He said that fans, while sometimes being like an "overbearing mother", are what makes the NFL boat, as he called it, go. "If it's not for their love, their support, the teams, you know, coming to see us play, their admiration and their work ethic into this community, they wouldn't be able to support our community," he said. "So, you know, I really contribute and try to do as much as I can for the fans to embrace their love."

As for the themed restaurant, which has outfits that Post Malone has worn and Cowboy blue everywhere, he said he expected nothing less. "I wouldn't expect anything else for Post Malone. That's what he is," Parsons said. "He's so awesome. So he definitely deserves an awesome store." At that store, he said he'd choose Trevon Diggs to help him work the Raising Cane's lunch rush if he could choose one teammate.

Post Malone recently dipped his toes into the country music genre, something he has said he wanted to do for a long time. Parsons admitted that while he's a "slow jam" R&B music fan, he has recently gotten into country music to keep up with the area's interests. "I got my cowboy boots too. You know, I'm digging Zach Bryan right now. I got into a little bit of Morgan Wallen because they came down here," he said. "So, I was like, 'Hey, man, they already sold out AT&T.' I gotta see what they have to offer." Despite all of that, his pre-game playlist does mainly consist of Rod Wave, he revealed.

    Facing Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson, one of the most uniquely challenging quarterbacks to face (and especially to sack) in today's NFL, is on deck for the Cowboys. Micah Parsons has yet to take on Jackson, who he praised effusively before their Week 3 matchup. "He's probably the best dual-threat quarterback in league in history to date," he praised. "I mean, two-time MVP, a Heisman winner, you know, multiple playoff runs." He went on to say everything the Baltimore Ravens QB has done is "admirable."

While not exposing his or the Cowboys' defensive plan to stop Jackson, he did reveal what things can be done to try and mitigate what a mobile QB brings to the table. He said, "You just always got to find a way to keep him in the pocket. Don't let him get some extra runs, keep extending plays, things like that. He's a challenging guy. It's easy to say, but it's hard to do." He said it's going to take all 11 defensive Cowboys to stop him, believing that they may have to get creative with spies and expecting a very good game.

Parsons said that he put in a lot of off-season work in conditioning to get better at avoiding blocks and rushing the quarterback. "I feel like I worked on my conditioning, my hands, my IQ. I think overall I just wanted to become a better player, and I think it's really shown off so far," the Cowboys star added. Parsons said he takes not being the best personally and is always striving to reach that level.

    In Conclusion

It's the height of NFL season, with every team being theoretically able to make the playoffs and win a championship. That includes the Dallas Cowboys, yet Micah Parsons stepped away to work with crewmembers and interact with fans at Raising Cane's. It speaks to how much he cares about his fans, who he believes are among the most important facets of the NFL at large.
