The new season of Dancing With The Stars kicked off on Tuesday evening, but not without its share of controversy.

As the show got underway, hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro introduced the celebrity contestants, including Anna Delvey. Anna quickly became a controversial contestant once she as announced because she is a convicted fraudster . However, viewers were not pleased with how the fake heiress was presented.

Delvey was introduced as a "fashionista" and "entrepreneur" which led to an immediate backlash on X, formerly known as Twitter. One viewer wrote: "They did not introduce Anna by saying she's a fashionista. This show is so unserious." Another echoed this sentiment, tweeting: "Anna Delvey... Fashionista and entrepreneur? ? Oh DWTS."

Others also chimed in, with one person slamming: "Not them calling Anna Delvey an entrepreneur lmaooooo #DWTS #DancingWithTheStars.", reports the Express US . A fourth added: "Honestly, #DWTS should come up with a new title for Anna Delvey each week. Fashionista and Entrepreneur is WILD."

Jamie E. Wright, the founder of The Wright Law Firm, has weighed in on Delvey's participation in the show, particularly given her current immigration status.

He said: "It's really interesting (and bold) to see Anna Delvey appearing on Dancing With The Stars while also dealing with the possibility of being deported from the country she's in now." He further explained: "In situations like hers, where immigration is involved and procedures are concurrent with earning income, it can get quite complicated because of all the factors at play here on the show itself."

He noted that contestants are typically paid to participate, meaning Delvey could potentially benefit financially from her appearance on the show.

Wright went on to say that she needs to "be cautious" with her earnings due to the potential "scrutiny by immigration officials". He wrapped up his thoughts, stating: "However, she needs to be cautious as any money she makes might come under scrutiny by immigration officials, who might view it as a way for her to extend her stay in the country."

"The main concern is how her involvement might impact her immigration status, weighing the benefits of seizing an opportunity against the hurdles she must overcome."
