After Governor DeSantis ordered a statewide investigation into the apparent second assassination attempt on former President Trump, we're getting reaction from Palm Beach County's State Attorney.

DeSantis says the federal investigation may not go far enough, and he wants to ensure transparency.

Top prosecutor in Palm Beach, Dave Aronberg, had initially said he would pursue the case, but made an about-face on Monday.

"I'm not sure there's a need for a duplicate state investigation."

He tells us he doesn't think attempted murder would stick against Ryan Routh.

"This is not an easy case for an attempted murder charge because you have to not only prepare and plan you have to have a substantial step towards making it happen. And this guy will have a lot of defenses because he never fired a shot."

Aronberg says that if Routh hid out in the bushes outside Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach for 12 hours as investigators believe, that amounts to circumstantial evidence.

Aronberg believes the feds will post additional charges against Routh. Right now, he's only facing a couple of gun-related charges. The state attorney thinks aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a Secret Service agent is something the federal government could get a conviction for.
