In previous years, Chinchorreo guests received an event passport containing a list of 5–10 participating Latin/Hispanic restaurants in downtown Chambersburg. Each stop listed in the passport offered a Latin/Hispanic food experience, and food crawl guests were also welcome to purchase other entrées alongside each experience.This year, guests are invited to visit any of the participating restaurants throughout the week and order whatever they like, allowing them to customize their own experience. Each receipt is an opportunity to win one of four $50 VISA gift cards.The Chinchorreo Latin/Hispanic Food Crawl is a DCI celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which lasts from September 15 to October 15. The name comes from a Puerto Rican custom, chinchorrear, where people sample wares from multiple chinchorros, or food stalls, in a single trip.“Chinchorreo is an awesome opportunity to celebrate Chambersburg’s diverse community with delicious food, acknowledging and honoring the cultures represented in our town,” says Sam Thrush, president of DCI. “I look forward to this event—and sampling our businesses’ flavors—every year. And this year, the celebration’s all week long, with a fun competitive element.”Returning Chinchorreo attendees may remember Veroni Café, El Gallo, Avocado Café, Bori Delicias, Las Palmeras, and the Oasis Café from previous years. Newcomers to the Chinchorreo scene include Eugenia Kitchen, Classic Family Diner, El Quetzal, and Don Checkos. Recounting her experience with Chinchorreo, Campos says, “The most enjoyable aspect for me is being able to connect with different individuals, share our culture with them, and watch them experience new things they may not have tried before. The Chambersburg community has such a strong support system, especially when it comes to backing small businesses.”Participating restaurants will be featured on DCI’s Facebook page throughout the week and in the days leading up to the event.
