Portland Avenue Reopens to Two-Way Traffic as Retaining Wall Project Nears Completion

    2024-09-18

DOVER, NH – Portland Avenue has reopened to two-way traffic following the removal of temporary traffic signals by Cochecho and Chapel streets, as work on the retaining wall project nears its final stages. While two-way traffic has resumed, motorists should still expect occasional one-lane alternating traffic within the project area as construction continues.

The remaining tasks include completing the concrete sidewalk, which is expected to be finished early next week. However, the newly poured sidewalk will remain closed until a safety railing can be installed. Due to product availability issues, the railing installation may be delayed for several weeks or longer.

In addition to the sidewalk work, the milling and paving of Portland Avenue within the project limits is projected to occur by the end of the month.

The retaining wall, which supports Portland Avenue, has been under reconstruction since earlier this year. The project includes the construction of a new sidewalk section along the wall between Chapel and Cochecho streets, as well as the installation of new streetlights to improve safety and accessibility.

For more information about the project, residents are encouraged to contact Community Services at 603-516-6450.
