Coming into the season it was known that Ohio State had the playmakers to compete for it all, but the worries were instead with the protection.

Ohio State went out and got Will Howard in the transfer portal and they believe he can be the quarterback that wins a National Championship with them . Entering the season, the offensive line was a question mark but they look pretty good through two games.

Yes, the two games have come against Akron and Western Michigan, but still, the Buckeyes offensive line has looked solid despite not being fully healthy.

"I think they made pretty good strides from game one to game two, especially from a communication standpoint,” offensive coordinator Chip Kelly said.

Seth McLaughlin has been a major boost for the Buckeyes in the middle of the offensive line. Bringing him in as a transfer from Alabama looks like a major win to this point and his leadership in the middle is already being seen.

"Stability. He's been there, done that,” Kelly said of McLaughlin. “He's seen a lot and he's played in some really, really big games. So, I think the other players on the line look to him because they know he has that experience."

Howard added similar words about the veteran center who has played a ton of football, just like he has.

“He brings a certain level of experience and just maturity. Having that guy at the center position is just crucial. He brings the juice up there and he is smart. He’s making some calls before I even make them, that has been really, really big for this O-line. I think he's fit in really well with this group. He's become a really important part of this offense."

Against Marshall in Week 3, the Buckeyes are going to get back left guard Donovan Jackson . With Jackson back, the Buckeyes will have a fully healthy offensive line that should be championship quality at its peak.

Through two weeks the offensive line looks like a unit that shouldn’t be one to worry about in 2024 and Kelly is already seeing the improvement that he needs to it appears.
