NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is learning more about a death investigation in Luzerne County that we first reported Tuesday morning.

The body of 36-year-old Kelci Pamela Jones was found in the front yard of a home in Nanticoke.

The coroner says the cause and manner of death is pending toxicology results.

It’s a scene that people in this Nanticoke neighborhood say they will never forget

Police converged on the 200 block of East Ridge Street just before 8:00 a.m. Tuesday when the body of a woman was discovered in the front yard of a home.

“I came walking to the door. A body. How horrible, horrible,” Paulette, a neighbor, said.

Police identify the person as 36-year-old Kelci Pamela Jones from Nanticoke. Jones did not live in that neighborhood.

Investigators spent some four hours looking for potential evidence, any clue that might shed some light as to what might have happened.

Detectives also interviewed neighbors and other people who may have information about what might have led to the death of Jones.

The Luzerne County Coroner conducted an autopsy Tuesday and is expected to release a statement on Wednesday.

The police investigation is also looking at a possible drug connection that contributed to the death.

Jason Harlen is CEO of Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Services and, while not commenting on the Nanticoke death investigation, tells the I-Team he is seeing a growing number of deaths in the region with a substance connection.

“You know the doors never close here, unfortunately. We have a flow of clients who come through the doors with many issues including opioid use disorder- fentanyl overdose etc. So we continue to see it, unfortunately. It’s a major major issue,” said Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Services CEO Jason Harlen.

The police investigation into the death of Jones is ongoing.

If you have any information about the death of Jones, you are asked to call Nanticoke police.
