Columbiana, Ohio (WKBN) – A Columbiana County veteran has gotten the call to be inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

Marshall Bahr saw his father and grandfather serve. Now he’s receiving special recognition for post-military accomplishments and achievements.

Bahr served at the tip of the spear – an Army Ranger in special operations with 500 direct action missions.

“I was kind of around other giants, you know, really people that were at the top of their field,” Bahr said.

Bahr was a medic for over six years and he wears bracelets from people who were killed in action.

Now, he’s being inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame, with 19 others with similar military paths.

“For me, it’s just being humbled seeing all these amazing people doing all this amazing stuff,” he said.

Bahr was also named a Pat Tillman scholar 10 years ago. It expanded his education, training, and platform to help others.

He then started an outpatient addiction treatment center in Salem called Lead The Way Recovery.

“So I really have a passion for helping people who are reclassified as vulnerable patients. So those with substance abuse disorder, helping out people that are incarcerated, helping out other veterans.”

Bahr gets help too. He has a service dog called Partrick from America’s VetDogs. The dog is trained in nightmare interruption, recognizing symptoms in Bahr.

“And so what it does, it wakes me up right away. I can fall back asleep right away. And you know, I’m getting more sleep now, and my symptoms have decreased significantly,” he said.

This award gives Bahr recognition and he’s accepting it humbly, believing it can lead to improvements on the homefront.

“I think it’s a nice platform to be able to talk about, you know, Veteran Affairs, what’s going on, some of the projects that I’m very passionate about, and helping other veterans. So that’s been the really cool thing about this whole process,” he said.

Bahr will be inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Nov. 7. The group of 20 represents 16 counties in Ohio and four branches of the Armed Forces.
