    NWS cancels tornado warning, issues severe thunderstorm warning for east-central Volusia

    The National Weather Service has downgraded a tornado warning to a severe thunderstorm warning for east central Volusia County until 8:15 Wednesday night.

    The areas of concern include Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, Oak Hill and Bethune Beach.

    The weather service warned that damage to roofs, siding and trees could occur.

    A severe thunderstorm was spotted near Edgewater moving 15 mph eastward, with the potential for 60 mph wind gusts in addition to heavy rain. Witnesses reported lightning over Edgewater.
