Nevada higher ed gets $3.9M to tackle physician shortage

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is set to receive a grant to boost the number of primary care physicians in Nevada.

The $3.9 million grant is from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will help focus on medically underserved communities.

Congresswoman Dina Titus made the announcement on Wednesday and leads the Medical Student Education Authorization Act, legislation to authorize the program that sources the $3.9 million grant.

“Nevada ranks 48 ^th in the nation in shortages of primary care doctors,” Titus said. “This grant provides critical funding to public medical education institutions in the State to support medical student training and improve recruitment and retention of students.
