WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man suspected of assaulting and attempting to rob a pregnant nurse at the Trumbull Regional Medical Center was arrested Sunday.

Warren police were dispatched Sunday at about 8:18 p.m. with reports of a man assaulting a TRMC nurse in the parking lot, according to a police report.

Police were told the man assaulted a pregnant nurse while attempting to steal her car and then took off shirtless down Laird Avenue.

Officers were able to locate the man walking on South St. between Bonnie Brae and Homewood where he was arrested.

Police spoke with the victim as she was being treated in the TRMC emergency room.

The report states the woman was visibly pregnant, had injuries on her face and head, and blood was thick and clotted around her nose. She said she was experiencing pelvic pain and felt like her nose was broken.

ER staff began assessing if her unborn child had any injuries. The woman stated she was due Sept. 27.

The victim said she was sitting in her car after her shift ended when the suspect ripped her door open and forcefully pulled her out. She was able to push the man to the ground and tried to get back in the vehicle to lock the doors but was unsuccessful.

The victim stated the man then slammed her head against the car and began punching her in the face. She said she fought with the man for about three to four minutes before witnesses came to help.

During the assault, the woman stated she was able to reach into the car and sound the horn.

Another nurse at the hospital called 911 after hearing the car horn going off in the parking lot which brought her attention to the situation.

The suspect took off on foot when others came to the woman’s aid.

As an officer escorted the suspect into his cruiser, the suspect stopped walking and fell to the ground. Backup was requested in case he resisted arrest, the report stated.

Police spoke with ER staff who said just before the incident occurred, the suspect had checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice. He was there seeking drug rehabilitation treatment, ER staff said.

After his arrest, the suspect was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for an unknown medical issue.

Later, he was taken to the Trumbull County Jail.
