Last week, there were multiple online threats made towards local schools throughout Joliet.

After the Joliet Police Department were able to obtain phone records of the threats, two girls aged 12 and 14 were arrested on Monday morning for these threats.

When the officers went to their homes, they searched each residence and found that the threats were not credible at this time. Both girls were just placing these threats on social media as a prank so that they would not have to go to school. Well, they did not have to go to school on Monday because the students were being processed at River Valley Juvenile Detention Center for a felony count of disorderly conduct.

Then, the police were able to arrest the third student on Monday afternoon at a relative's home. The 12-year-old boy incriminated himself even more because he shared the same threat multiple times on social media. The police were then able to search the child's residence. No weapons or contraband were found at the child's residence. His threats were a prank as well. He was also processed at River Valley Juvenile Detention Center for a felony count of disordely conduct.

Fortunately, these threats were not actual threats. However, parents need to teach their children that anything that is placed on social media can eventually be tracked. Nevertheless, many adults have not grasped that concept either.
