Nestlé’s Vital Pursuit hit stores on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, as the first-to-market consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand created specifically for GLP-1 users. It offers high-protein , nutrient-packed frozen meals that aim to provide dietary support for these users, as well as anyone on a weight management journey.

Available at major retailers like Walmart, Target and Kroger, these pre-portioned meals offer convenience for those seeking quick yet balanced options. Each of the 14 meals comes with at least 20 grams of protein, whole grains and vegetables, not to mention vital nutrients such as vitamin A, potassium, calcium or iron. The line also includes vegetarian and gluten-free varieties and air fryer cooking methods.

“People taking these medications not only have a decreased appetite, but they must adjust their diets with a sharper focus on smaller portions, while also prioritizing beneficial nutrients for their health,” said Marlene Schmidt, Registered Dietitian and Senior Health & Wellness Manager at Nestlé in a press release.

My review of the Vital Pursuit line

I had the chance to try three of the new meals, and overall, I was pretty impressed. The Cauliflower Crust Pepperoni Pizza was my favorite. At first glance, they weren’t kidding about portion control — I could fit the entire pizza on a small plate. That said, it proved to be the perfect size for one person, and I definitely wasn’t hungry after eating it (it was only 380 calories!). Since I had more time on my hands, I decided to bake mine in the oven and it came out crispy, bubbly and flavorful. The cauliflower flavor wasn’t too strong, so it really felt like a traditional pizza.

As for the The Garlic Herb Grilled Chicken Bowl (340 calories) and the Air Fryer Meal Teriyaki Chicken (220 calories), both made for decent in-office lunches or quick dinners. I liked easy they were to heat up in the microwave, and the flavors were good (hats off to the Teriyaki sauce). However, the texture was definitely on the mushier, wetter side (as to be expected). I still felt full from both, though these didn’t look exactly like their pictures. And everything was tiny, from the chicken to the broccoli. I wished some of the veggies were bigger, as most looked more like crumbs than actual pieces.

Overall, the Vital Pursuit line hits the mark for anyone seeking healthier, portion-controlled meals and they make a solid choice for a quick, lazy meal.
