"Investigations have been conducted, and there have been no credible threats made," Wray stated.

Wray went on to note that the rumors of threats in public schools usually begin to circulate after a tragedy occurs. These threats are coming on the heels of the recent tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The incident occured on September 4, 2024, claiming the lives of four people and injuring others.

"Fear causes rumors to begin that someone is planning to do something similar at our local schools," Wray said.

Wray went on to confirm that the Tupelo PD takes all rumors of this kind seriously, and each rumor is investigated thoroughly. At present, the rumors are unfounded, but according to Wray's statement, training is ongoing to continue to ensure that Tupelo students are as safe as possible.

"We conduct drills and safety trainings to prepare our staff for critical incidents. You can send your children to school with confidence knowing that we take your child's safety seriously, and we are doing everything within our power to keep your child safe at school," Wray said.
