The character of Amy Lewis is returning to The Young & The Restless with a new face. Although it’s one that may be familiar to some ABC soap fans.

Deadline reports that Valarie Pettiford will be taking over the role and will first air on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Currently, the actress will be appearing on a recurring basis, but that can always change. “So this happened today!” the actress proclaimed on Instagram after the news broke. “So honored to be a part of this legendary show with this legendary cast!”

Originally played by Stephanie E. Williams from 1983-88, Amy Lewis originally worked as a secretary for Paul Williams and Andy Richard’s detective agency. As part of the younger crowd in Genoa City, Amy was friends with Danny Romalotti, Lauren Fenmore, and Traci Abbott, even joining Danny on stage occasionally to sing. She also dated Tyrone Lewis and Nate’s father, Nate Hasting, Sr. before leaving town to take care of her father.

Pettiford is a talented singer and dancer who appeared on Broadway and earned a Tony Award nomination for her work in Fosse . Her daytime credits include Courtney Walker on Another World and Sheila Price on One Life to Live. (Interestingly, when Pettiford left the role of Sheila in 1994, Williams was the one who took over for her!)

Viewers might also recognize Pettiford from her appearances in movies like Glitter , Stomp the Yard , and Jumping the Broom as well as her roles in television shows like Half & Half, House of Payne, Being Mary Jane, A Discovery of Witches, and The Blacklist. Her most recent role was playing Charlotte Duncan in the BET series The Family Business.

What brings Amy back to Genoa City is still a mystery, so you’ll just have to stay tuned to find out. But you can always share your own theories and predictions in the comments below!
