“Trying To Get Up & Down These Mountains With A Hangover” – Blake Shelton Says He Quit ‘The Voice So He Could Do Things Like Hunt Elk In Utah

Blake Shelton seems to be having one hell of a hunting trip out in Utah. The country singer has really just been enjoying life in general after his pseudo-retirement. And by that, I just mean that he walked away from being a judge on The Voice . That decision, albeit a hard one, has led Shelton to have a lot more free time on his hands. He's using that time to enjoy the great outdoors. Shelton joined The Pat McAfee Show to talk about what he's up to, besides his upcoming appearance on ESPN's College GameDay . He was selected to be the guest picker as the game of the week is played in Norman, Oklahoma between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Tennessee Volunteers. It should be a great matchup. But instead of prepping for that appearance, the "Boys 'Round Here" singer explained that he's having the time of his life elk hunting (and drinking) in the mountains of Utah: "I'm up in Utah right now elk hunting. This is amazing up here. I didn't grow up getting to elk hunt, obviously. I lived in Oklahoma. Getting to come out and do different things like this and get some exercise and get my a** kicked a little bit trying to get up and down these mountains with a hangover every morning. It's what I need in my life. This is why I quit 'The Voice.' So I could start doing more stuff like this." Good for him. Shelton went on to say that word of his College GameDay appearance quickly spread throughout the hunting camp he's staying at in Utah. He's just as excited as everyone else is for him to join the staple college football show, but there's just one problem: "I told all the guys at the camp here where we're staying, I said 'Man you ain't going to believe this. Pat just texted and asked me to go do the ESPN GameDay.' Of course, everybody's like, 'You gotta do it!' I said, 'Yeah but I don't know sh*t about all these teams.'" We all know that if something comes down to choosing correct winners of games, you are better off knowing jack-diddly-squat. I'm sure Blake Shelton will be fine as the guest picker, especially since he's back in his home state of Oklahoma.
