PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced today that major weekend closures will affect both westbound Interstate 10 and southbound State Route 143 from Friday, Sept. 20, to Monday, Sept. 23.

These closures are part of ongoing improvement projects aimed at paving and traffic shifts, according to ADOT.

Westbound I-10 will be closed between Loop 202 (Santan/South Mountain Freeway) and US 60 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.

In addition, the ramps from Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to westbound I-10 will be closed, along with on-ramps at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard, Chandler Boulevard, Ray Road, Warner Road, and Baseline Road.

    Detour:
Drivers can detour by using eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway), then westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to reconnect with westbound I-10.

Travelers heading to the West Valley can bypass the closure by using Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to rejoin I-10 at 59th Avenue.

Southbound State Route 143 will also be closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and I-10 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for a traffic shift.

The ramps from Loop 202 to southbound SR 143, as well as on-ramps at Washington Street, Sky Harbor Boulevard, and University Drive, will also be closed.

    Detour:
Westbound Loop 202 drivers can detour via eastbound I-10 to reach their destinations south of the closure. Eastbound Loop 202 drivers should use southbound Loop 101 to westbound US 60.

    Airport Access:
For Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport access during both closures, drivers can use southbound 44th Street from Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).

Note: ADOT advises drivers to use designated detours when there are closures on state highways. Schedules can quickly change because of weather and other unforeseen situations, according to ADOT.
