KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Halls dominated its matchup against Carter. Well, for the first third quarters. The Red Devils jumped out to a 35-0 lead, but Carter then scored 19 unanswered points to make things interesting. However, Halls was able to stop the late comeback and pick up a 35-19 win.

Halls got on the board late in the first quarter thanks to a touchdown pass from Amari Lethgo to Landon Vest on third and goal. The Red Devils then turned defense into offense as a forced fumble led to a Tres Scates scoop and score to give Halls a 14-0 lead in the second.

Carter’s offensive struggles continued as Nathan Martin picked off a pass from Brody Sparks to put Halls in scoring position. The Red Devils scored on the very next play, as Lethgo found a wide open Drew Ross to extend the advantage to 21-0 with just over three minutes left until halftime.

However, Halls had enough time to strike again, as the Halls defense forced another turnover, this time from Brody Rogers. Offensive lineman Noah Martin found pay dirt with just seconds left in the half to give Halls a 28-0 lead at the break.

Amari Lethgo threw his third touchdown pass of the night to Martin to make it a 35-0 lead halfway through the third quarter.

Carter finally got on the board late in the third as Brody Sparks connected with Gabe Dennis on a 63-yard touchdown pass. Sparks found Dennis again in the fourth quarter to cut into Halls’ lead, 35-12.

The Hornets weren’t done yet though. Carter running back Jody Scruggs fought his way into the endzone late in the fourth to make it a 35-19 game. However, it was too little too late as Carter’s six turnovers were too much to overcome.

Halls improves to 4-1 on the season, while Carter falls to 3-2.
