P. Diddy's Troubled Relationship with J. Lo: Rumors, Abuse, and Scandal

After Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ arrest on Monday, people have been questioning the hip-hop mogul’s past relationships with a slew of celebrity women. However, the one involvement the public is mainly focused on after Combs was indicted on racketeering and sex trafficking charges is his past association with Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez and Combs Started Dating During the Late 90s

According to Newsweek, Lopez met Combs on the set of her “If You Had My Love” music video in 1999. Combs was not involved in the project, but he lingered around and flirted with Lopez. The pair was publicly affectionate and never shied away from PDA despite the constant flashing of paparazzi cameras and gossip printed in tabloid magazines and newspapers.

However, not long after the pair started dating, they had issues involving Combs’ brushes with the law and the trouble he often found himself in whether he was targeted due to his celebrity status, or it was self-inflicted. Combs was also known as a ladies’ man with a roaming eye and dated several famous women.

Rumors About Abuse and Guns Surfaced

While Lopez has never publicly admitted that Combs was abusive toward her, she mentioned that she experienced abuse in her autobiography, True Love, which was released in 2014:

“I’ve never gotten a black eye or a busted lip, but I’ve felt abused in one way or another: mentally, emotionally, verbally. I know what it feels like for your soul to be diminished by the way your loved one is treating you.” – Courtesy of TIME

Unfortunately for Lopez, her fans aren’t convinced. They believe the singer’s indirect references to abuse were about Combs due to his volatile relationships with various celebrity women including Mary J. Blige, Cassie Ventura, and the late Kim Porter.

In 1999, Lopez became a topic of controversy when Combs was involved in a shooting at a New York City nightclub. Her fans were disappointed that she was caught up in a life-threatening situation, and the shady company Combs was keeping. Combs was charged with illegal possession of a gun and Lopez reluctantly testified in court about the incident.

Lopez Was Paranoid About Combs from the Start

After the former couple split and reconciled on several occasions, Lopez finally ended her on/off relationship with Combs in 2001, which was the same year she started dating Chris Judd. They never attended any celebrity events together again.

Lopez never saw Combs cheating on her, but she suspected he did whenever he suddenly left home after receiving late-night calls. She also mentioned that men had never been unfaithful to her until she started dating Combs.

The newfound interest in the past relationship between Combs and Lopez isn’t surprising. However, his indictment and the charges he's facing are severe enough to destroy his reputation as a hopeless romantic who loves to spoil the women he dates and would reveal a facade he maintained for years.
