In my 30+ years experience in study of, treatment of and long term observations I do believe females present differently, less severe and don't show some of the more unusual characteristics that males do. Frequently, males present with very feminine behaviors and characteristics that are very not as noticeable in females. I've come to believe there are multiple triggers and different genetic mutations...combinations vary as do the spectrum of behaviors and severity. Girls can "pass" as a quiet child with unusual mannerisms while a boy presents outside the normative ranges as noted by developmental norms. There may be a sex link chromosome ASD or trigger.

Autism isn't less likely in girls, it presents differently in most cases. The vast majority of studies were done on white male children. Luckily researchers are rectifying this and studying autism in girls and POC to see a better picture of how it affects people.
