Rochester to start fire hydrant flushing: What residents need to know

ROCHESTER — The City of Rochester will begin flushing fire hydrants on Sept. 22, with the process continuing through Oct. 31.

The majority of flushing will be scheduled from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and should be completed within six weeks. As a result of flushing, some slight discoloration may be noticed in your water. If discoloration occurs, it may clear up if you run your cold water tap for several minutes. Customers may also experience low water pressure while flushing is in progress. Customers are urged to check their water for these types of issues before bathing or doing laundry.

If residents have any questions or concerns, or if discoloration will not clear, please contact the Rochester Public Works Department during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 332-4096.
